Understanding the Kairos Academic Calendars
Kairos Academy SA supports families following the American High School Diploma pathway through our partnership with HomeLife Academy. Families may follow one of two academic calendar rhythms: the ALPHA Calendar or the US Standard Calendar.
Both calendars lead to the same AHSD framework. The difference lies mainly in enrollment timing, reporting deadlines, transcript release dates, and graduation rhythm.
Families do not need to make this decision alone. Kairos can help you choose the calendar that best fits your child’s current grade, transfer status, family rhythm, and future plans.
Which Calendar Should We Choose?
The ALPHA Calendar follows a January to December rhythm. This often feels familiar to South African families and may suit students who naturally work according to the local academic year.
The US Standard Calendar follows a July to June rhythm. This may suit families who prefer alignment with the northern hemisphere academic year, students transferring mid-year, families considering international pathways, or students who need a different graduation timeline.
In both cases, planning matters. The best calendar is not simply the one that starts soonest, but the one that supports your child’s learning rhythm, recordkeeping, graduation timing, and future application needs.

A Helpful Planning Reminder
The calendar you choose affects more than dates. It can influence your family’s reporting rhythm, your child’s graduation timing, and how comfortably you align with tertiary applications or transfer planning.
If your child is transferring from another school system, entering high school, or approaching Grade 12, we strongly recommend confirming the most suitable calendar before finalizing your enrollment.
